Intelligence-Panel Members Say They Will Probe Trump's Wiretap Claims

05 March 2017

Trump tweeted, which is ironic enough in itself, since McCarthyism refers to the practice of making accusations of subversion without any regard for whether or not evidence exists, and the president has provided no evidence to back up his claims.

But that wouldn't have been Obama ordering an apparent wiretapping on Trump Tower, a wiretapping for which there is no public evidence.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-D) joins CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" to respond to President Trump's unsubstantiated claim that President Obama wiretapped his phones at Trump Tower ahead of the 2016 election. Turned down by a court earlier. "I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October", Trump tweeted before implying Obama was a "bad (or sick) guy".

On NBC's "Meet The Press", on Sunday morning, James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence says, to his knowledge, there was no wiretapping on then-candidate Trump or his campaign.

Also on Saturday, groups of hundreds of people rallied for Mr. Trump in different cities - from Colorado's State Capitol to Trump Tower in NY and the Washington Monument.

Mukasey, who led the U.S. Department of Justice in the waning days of the George W. Bush administration, said Trump Tower was nearly certainly the subject of surveillance, but that orders for such actions were likely issued by the Justice Department and not the Obama White House. However you define it, President Donald Trump's latest tweet storm has everybody talking.

"How low has President Obama gone to tap my phones during the very sacred election process. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false", said Lewis.

Anifah had said this was an "indication of the government's concern that Malaysia may have been used for illegal activities". Malaysia is seeking to question several North Koreans, including an embassy official, over the death of Kim Jong-nam.

In a report issued in January, U.S. intelligence agencies concluded: "the Russian Government aspired to help".

Trump's alleged Russian connection, which the president denies, is a recurring accusation of his critics.

After Trump's well-received speech to Congress on Tuesday, the tweets reflected the president's growing frustration with the swirling allegations about his advisers' ties to Russian Federation, which are under FBI investigation, and his team's inability to overcome them.

The comments come after Trump asked congressional intelligence committees to look into "politically motivated" investigations conducted by the previous administration in the run up to last year's election. He is not saying, but in the past two days, several conservative media outlets have reported that same story, including conservative radio host Mark Levin and the conservative media site Breitbart News, which used to be led by Trump's Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.
