Ex-CIA chief: Trump 'probably should apologize' to Obama over wiretapping claim

The former British ambassador to the United States has rejected claims by US President Donald Trump about the UK's involvement in alleged wiretapping of Trump Tower by the administration of former President Barack Obama in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. Comey said the Justice Department also asked him to share with the committee that the answer also applies to the Justice Department and its various components.

He continued: "If the FBI made a decision to use their wiretapping authority in the context of the counterintelligence or criminal investigation, it would require FBI investigators, officials at the Department of Justice going to a federal judge, and making a case, and demonstrating probable cause to use that authority to conduct the investigation".

"And I would not be surprised if Director Comey today basically says as much", Panetta told "Morning Joe". He says courts grant this permission after a rigorous application process. He said he can not provide details about the investigation.

The head of America's National Security Agency (NSA) has denied claims the intelligence organisation asked Britain's GCHQ to spy on Donald Trump when he was running for president.

Schiff says Democrats on the committee will be focused in part on whether Americans helped Russian Federation with its hacking of Democratic groups and individuals. "Big advantage in Electoral College & lost!" "Is there any shadow of a doubt, is there any possibility, any way, Obama could have tapped Trump Tower in any way?"

Trump also tweeted that the "real story" is the leaking of classified information.

Comey is also scheduled to speak about Trump's collusion with the Russians that resulted in Vladimir Putin intervening with the presidential elections previous year.

A hearing Monday before one of several congressional panels probing allegations of Russian meddling, the House Intelligence Committee, could allow for the greatest public accounting to date of investigations that have shadowed the Trump administration in its first two months.
