Aaron Hernandez Will 'Always Be Guilty,' Says Odin Lloyd's Mother

11 May 2017

Sheff, an attorney for Lloyd's mother Ursula Ward, said a judge made a preliminary finding that the former New England Patriots star was at fault in Lloyd's death and that the ruling was made before Hernandez's apparent suicide last month.

Aaron Hernandez died a convicted murderer, but in the eyes of the law, his conviction has been erased.

That could have a big impact on the civil trial against Hernandez.

According to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports, Judge Susan Garsh ruled the only option was to throw out the original conviction following Hernandez's death.

When Hernandez was arrested in June 2013 for the murder, he had a $41 million National Football League contract.

Coach CFO Kevin Wills said he expects to realize a run rate of about $50 million within three years of the deal's closing. Kate Spade & Co shares rose $1.45 (+8.54%) in premarket trading Monday.

Despite being convicted two years ago for the 2013 first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd, Aaron Hernandez technically died an innocent man. Hernandez's estate is worth $0.00, per court papers. A buyer is said to be interested in purchasing his North Attleboro, Mass. manse for $1.3 million. Prosecutors argued that Hernandez's suicide was a calculated move.

The judge who presided at Hernandez's trial in Lloyd's killing has scheduled a hearing Tuesday.

Hernandez seemed to be thinking differently at the time of his death. The suicide stunned his family because it came just days after Hernandez been found not guilty of a 2012 double murder.

It's still unclear how the financial part of this saga will shake out, but if the Patriots are on the hook for millions of dollars in payouts to the Hernandez family, that might be good news for the family of Lloyd, his victim.

"A defendant, who can cut off his own criminal appeal by suicide and stall civil litigation by a stay of proceedings. has the reins of the entire justice system in his own hands", prosecutors wrote.

"This is not a defendant who has arrived at the killing of himself by happenstance", Patrick Bomberg, a Bristol Assistant District Attorney, told Garsh, via the Boston Globe. The guilty verdict was issued on April 15, 2015.

John Thompson first raised a question about the official manner of death during a court hearing Tuesday. Hernandez had his wrists and ankles shackled by a court officer that afternoon.

She said it is unclear why Hernandez killed himself and that a recently released corrections department report provides no clear evidence of his motive.

In April, Hernandez was acquitted of a separate 2012 double homicide. Legally speaking, with nobody to serve a conviction despite the guilty party being identified in the court of law, there is nobody left to punish.
