Indonesia to probe jail break as 150 inmates remain on the run

About 200 inmates are still at large after a mass prison break at an overcrowded prison on Indonesia's Sumatra Island, officials say.

Yusti, whose son was imprisoned in the prison, had to pay 7 million rupiah (about 525 dollars) to the prison guards to have his son moved to a cell in the second floor for corruption case inmates where he belongs to.

According to I Wayan Dusak, the country's director general of prisons, 447 inmates escaped from Sialang Bungkuk Prison in Pekanbaru.

Scores of inmates fled the Sialang Bungkuk prison in Pekanbaru, the capital of the Riau province, Friday following clashes with prison guards, authorities said.

Jailbreaks are common in Indonesia, where inmates are held in often unsanitary conditions in overcrowded prisons.

In July 2013, about 240 prisoners, including several convicted terrorists, escaped following a deadly riot at a prison in Medan, the capital of Indonesia's North Sumatra Province.
