Microsoft unveils Windows update, virtual reality controllers

Microsoft conducted the 2nd day of its Build 2017 keynote, and it was filled with announcements that directly impact the consumer and Windows fans.

Microsoft's next big update is on its way and it will arrive in the Fall.

Microsoft subsequently shuttered much of its smartphone unit and redefined itself as a builder of its core Windows computer franchise as well as applications for smartphone platforms. Microsoft demos the app in the video above.

The next tab over, Create, contains a new feature called "Story Remix".

The update is also likely include or support features and apps based on mixed reality - the relatively new technology that allows you to view the real world, like augment reality (AR), but with more realistic artificial components than AR. While Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella pushed the Office and applications business to focus on versions for rival mobile operating systems three years ago, the role of Windows in that new world has been an open question. It was a free app that allowed Windows users to create simple mash-ups of photographs and video clips with basic transitions and other effects.

Microsoft's also looking to make headway into the retail space with its first-ever Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers. Additionally, it will also be compatible with iOS and android.
