Crash renews fears for residents near airport

One witness said she was working at the Manhattan Door Company when the plane came down right outside her office window.

The crash killed two pilots and sparked fires at two buildings that, as per the reports, could be seen from NY, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local police said.

Learjet 35A N452DA crashed on short final about a quarter mile from the approach end of Runway 1 at Teterboro Airport yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m.

A police officer at Carlstadt Police Department said no one on the ground was reported to have been injured.

"When we got there, in the middle of the fire. our gate was still locked, which gave us a good indication that he had already left the building", the mayor said.

The plane hit a building in an industrial area, near a township facility, said Joe Orlando, a spokesman for the town of Carlstadt.

"Parts of the plane are laying in the garage, I can see the engines, part of the fuselage". NBC 4 NY cited reported two crew members dead in the crash, citing Carlstadt Police.

The National weather service reported strong wind just before the crash. It then flew to Philadelphia later Monday morning before leaving for Teterboro in the afternoon.

John Falbo, who has lived in the New Jersey community for four years, said he can even smell the jet fuel as the planes pass by. It sits in a densely populated residential and industrial area just north of MetLife Stadium, where the NFL's New York Jets and New York Giants play.
