President Trump on Thursday denied ever asking FBI Director James B. Comey to back off his agency's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, as well as into the role played by former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn", a White House statement said.

But said he respects the decision Wednesday (May 17) by his Justice Department to appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel for a probe that has enveloped the White House in a political storm.

Putin made light of the matter at a news conference in Russian Federation, saying Moscow was ready to hand a transcript of the meeting to USA lawmakers if that would help reassure them. After meeting with his Republican counterpart as well as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House economic adviser Gary Cohn, Wyden said he wasn't reassured. That would surely include Trump's firing last week of FBI Director James Comey.

Trump and his national security team say the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, is the most effective battlefield partner against the Islamic State in northern and eastern Syria.

"Walls work. Just ask Israel", he said, ending that line of questioning.

Comey kept memos of conversations he had with the president, the Times reported.

The White House has denied reports that Trump pressed Comey to drop an investigation into Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
