It said: 'There were no infected computers in North East GP practices and the priority through this worldwide malware incident was to protect the NHS computer network, clinical systems and patient data - and this was done very successfully. However, a spokesperson said they are now operating as normal with no disruption to appointments and services.
The malicious software behind the onslaught appeared to exploit a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows that was supposedly identified by the National Security Agency for its own intelligence-gathering purposes and was later leaked to the internet.
But Theresa May rejected claims the Government ignored warnings the NHS was vulnerable to a possible cyber attack, saying warnings had been given to hospital trusts.
Professor Clark said more information on protecting your computer was available via the IT security company Sophos and the National Cyber Security Centre, among other sources.
The NHS has provided an update about planned treatment and outpatient appointments following the ransomware attack on its IT systems.

The Department of Homeland Security began an "aggressive awareness campaign" to alert industry partners to the importance of installing the Microsoft patch shortly after it was released in March, an agency official working on the attack said.
"These alerts included a patch to protect their systems".
Elsewhere in Asia, the impact seems to have been more limited.

Industrial conglomerate Hitachi Ltd. said the attack had affected its systems at some point over the weekend, leaving them unable to receive and send e-mails or open attachments in some cases.
The Scottish Government said there was no evidence patient data had been compromised following the attack and there have been no further reported problems.
White House cyber security coordinator Rob Joyce, who previously worked in the NSA's elite hacking squad, told a Reuters reporter in April that the Trump administration was considering how to "optimize" the Vulnerability Equities Process, but he did not elaborate.
Meanwhile, Irish hospitals suspected of being hit by the global cyber attack had been targeted by a different, older virus, health chiefs have revealed. A coal port in New Zealand shut temporarily to upgrade its systems.
