While we always knew that the iPhone 8 would be pricey, a new report from the Economic Daily News (via Digitimes) provides us with a better idea as to why the highly anticipated iPhone 8 will be the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever released.
The OLED display requires a separate protective glass that's bonded on the front and back of a device, according to MacRumors.
Patently Apple posted a report in March titled "Apple Suppliers GIS and TPK are Building New Capacity to Handle Apple's Next-Gen 3D OLED Touch Panels".
Finance ministers seek ways to make growth help more people
Italy, which holds the G7's rotating presidency this year, pushed to make inclusive growth and economic inequalities a key topic. The meeting prepares the way for a summit at the level of presidents and prime ministers in Taormina, Sicily, on May 26-27.
The Apple iPhone 8 is rumored to feature a sleek new redesign with an edge-to-edge screen display.
Earlier this month, JPMorgan analysts estimated that the iPhone 8's bill of materials (BOM) could cost Apple an additional $75-$80. The huge increase of price for the internal and external components will surely translate to a higher price for the final product itself.
Seeing as how the iPhone form factor design has more or less remained unchanged since the 2014 release of the iPhone 6, the current iPhone owners have been rooting for something new and different for years now. With that being said, the iPhone 8 will likely propel the largest and most significant upgrade cycle the technology company has seen yet. With that in mind, it's not hard to imagine Apple slapping a price tag on the iPhone 8 that's beyond $1,000. The size of the OLED display itself remains a mystery with speculations ranging from 5-inches to 5.8-inches. Whether or not this is true, and if there actually will be an iPhone with an OLED display has yet to be confirmed, so do take this information with a grain of salt.
Man charged with murder after NY vehicle carnage
A tourist from Argentina told CNN affiliate WABC that he was shocked to see the vehicle that "was like bowling, hitting people". The New York Times reports that he asked for a lawyer, but information about his attorney was unavailable Friday morning.
Of course, a more expensive 3D Touch panel is just one of a few components that will cost more on the iPhone 8 than on existing iPhones. Apple is also rumored to debut the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus.
The drastic price increase is said to be the result of a more involved manufacturing process on account of the OLED display being more fragile than the LCD displays Apple now uses. By way of contrast, Apple's top of the line iPhone 7 Plus model costs $969.
