Asked if he thought he had committed a crime or impeachable offense, the president said "it's totally ridiculous, everyone thinks so".

Trump's comments come after a brutal week-plus for the White House triggered by his firing of Comey, and near-daily bombshells about Flynn's shady activities, Trump's own continuing defense of his former top aide, and the evolving story from the White House about why Trump fired Comey.
Several members leaving the meeting said the deputy attorney general was aware of Comey's pending termination before he penned the letter to Trump.

The person who described the Comey memo was not authorised to discuss it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity. And that, they said, could lead down a road that ends with the president's ouster - but that the facts aren't in yet.
Republicans on Capitol Hill hoped the same, reasoning that the appointment of a special counsel could free them to work on a major tax overhaul and other matters without constant distractions.
