Mumbai: Kulbhushan Jadhav's classmates in Mumbai on Monday stayed glued to their television sets as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague began hearing India's plea on the death sentence given to its national by Pakistan.
In an emergency hearing called just days after India lodged its case, lawyers for New Delhi urged the International Court of Justice to halt the death sentence imposed on Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav saying his rights had been violated by Islamabad.
The Netherlands-based ICJ will likely take up Jadhavs case at around 1pm India time in the Great Hall of Justice housed in the Peace Palace in the city of The Hague.
"This court has been used by Pakistan as a political theatre". "We will not respond in kind", Qureshi said. He said India's application is misconceived and unnecessary.

Lakers Land No. 2 Pick in 2017 Draft
What does this mean for the future of the Boston Celtics? "There are a lot of things that sound good in theory", Stevens said. Bias' death set the Celtics back for decades, maybe this draft pick will get the Celtics back into their dynasty ways.
India claimed that the situation was grave and urgent, prompting it to approach the court "at such short notice". As India prepares to face Pakistan at the worldwide platform, reports suggest that the former's defence is only based on the fact that they have been denied the right to consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav. Jadhav has been in judicial custody without any communication with his family, he said.
India terms Pakistan military court's trial as "farcical".
Pakistan will present its arguments to the afternoon session.
Harish Salve (India's counsel): Pakistan military court awarding death sentence to Kulbhushan Jadhav is a violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by Pakistan.
The Pakistani officials say Jadhav has been linked to 1,345 deaths in acts of terrorism in Pakistan, using fake ID to make secret trips to Pakistan from Iran before his arrest in 2016.
USA air strikes hit pro-regime convoy in Syria
Reports said the coalition fired warning shots to prevent the army forces from advancing before hitting the convoy. Meanwhile, a military source said the strike reveals the real scheme by the USA and Zionist entity against Syria.
The hearing will be carried out in two phases. "The date on which this order will be delivered at a public sitting will be duly communicated to the parties", the court said.
"Jadhav was confined on confession booth proclamations removed from him when he was in Pakistan's military guardianship", Salve said.
Pakistan said Jadhav had a 150-day period to seek clemency and could challenge his sentence in the high court.
The facts presented by India establish the violation of all principles of United Nations charter and Vienna Convention because of the nature of the trial which destroyed any credibility or sanctity of the army court's decision sentencing him to death, he said.
