While authorities are spending millions of rupees on preventing the froth from spilling to nearby areas, much less efforts have been undertaken to reduce the pollution in the lakes, which is the root cause of foaming. With toxic foam spilling over to the main artery, commuters had a tough time negotiating traffic for last couple of weeks, said the Indian media reports.
As rain gods blessed Bengaluru over the weekend, residents of the city living near Varthur lake witnessed toxic "chemical snowfall" - not literally the snowfall from the sky but from the surface as lake water frothed once again and spilled on to the roads.

In February, Bellandur lake, the city's largest water body, caught fire and it took almost four hours to put it out. Also the Karnataka Government is racing against time to clean up the Bellandur.
A similar incident was noticed a week earlier too but residents claim the government has not taken any step to mitigate the situation.
