Essential Phone: Everything we know right now

30 May 2017

Andy Rubin's team has opted to integrate the speaker below the screen and a camera in the dead center - because the notification icons on Android don't appear there. Finally, the company believes devices "shouldn't become outdated every year;" instead, "they should evolve with you".

The bezel-free design of the device was first confirmed in March 2017 and this unveiling comes with a pre-booking offer. It is expected that Essential will tag its first smartphone with a price close to that of Apple's iPhone 7. However, considering the premium specs and having been crafted under the clever tutelage of Andy Rubin, this phone is worth it.

Just as we expected, the smartphone comes with an impressive display which is nearly bezel-less. The display comes out at 5.71 inches - making it large, but not too large that it becomes uncomfortable. It sports a plain back, with just a fingerprint scanner and camera breaking it up - there's not even an Essential logo.

Talking about the specifications, the Essential phone has is powered by the Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Pope Francis Condemns 'Barbaric Attack' on Egyptian Christians
In response, Egyptian President el-Sisi ordered air strikes against terrorist bases in eastern Libya that were linked to Al Qaeda. In all, the four attacks - Friday's, two in April and one in December - killed at least 104 people, mostly Christians.

Oh, and before you ask, there's no 3.5mm headphone jack on this one. Considering that many modern day flagships are dropping it, it won't be much of a surprise. The phone will come in four colors - Black Moon, Stellar Grey, Pure White and Ocean Depths - and ship for $699, or $749 with a bundled 360-degree camera. There will also be a charging dock, should you prefer a cradle to a dangling charging cable. You can attach either via the magnetic pins at the top of the rear panel, although you can still use the USB-C port on the bottom to wire your phone to mains power. The smartphone is also rumored to have 3D touch and 360 degree camera connectivity which will certainly be divulged today when Essential pulls the curtains off among anticipation.

It's apparently the thinnest dual camera system built for a phone and the two lenses combine to capture up to 200% more light than traditional phone cameras, which could prove especially handy in low-light. This is similar to the one used on Huawei smartphones where one is a monochrome sensor whereas the other is an RGB one.
