The Northland Memorial Day Parade, which has been around since 1871, were having trouble getting people to participate this year with only 16 units registered just a few weeks ago.

Organizers believe the popularity of the parade has gone down in recent years, because children aren't learning what Memorial Day is truly about.

Parade organizers kept an eye on the weather forecast leading up to the 2 p.m. start time, and chose to go forward with the parade, although school bands scheduled to participate were notified earlier in the day that they would not be marching.

After the parade, a ceremony at Marcus Cain Memorial Park to pray for the ones who are no longer with us.
