There was no need for BCCI to meet PCB: Goel

01 June 2017

The government was forced to make its stand clear to quell any thoughts the BCCI may have had of fostering cricket ties in a diplomatic gesture at its meeting with the Pakistani board in Dubai.

While the reigning champions scripted a 45-run win over the Kiwis in their first encounter after reaching English shores in a rain-truncated game, the No.3 ranked side on Tuesday made mincemeat of Bangladesh with a 240-run victory.

It was the first meeting between the two cricket boards after serving of legal notice.

During the AGM, he revealed eight games would be played in the country in next season's tournament.

The decision to explore new venues was made when the BCCI being represented by Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and MV Sridhar, told PCB chief Shahryar Khan that they can not organise any Indo-Pak series until they get any allowance from the government.

The delegations of the BCCI and PCB met in Dubai today [Monday] and shared their stated positions.

Goel said the government wouldn't give its nod until the "cross-border terrorism" stops.

When asked why India are hesitant to take on Pakistan in a bilateral series, Goel attributed it to the frosty political relations between both countries.

It is learnt that BCCI is unlikely to pay any damages.

Following the sports minister's declaration, the BCCI officials reportedly told their PCB counterparts that the series will not go ahead.

Grande and friends to play Manchester on Sunday
Coldplay , Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are all set to join Ariana Grande at a benefit concert in Manchester this weekend. Those in most urgent need will receive funds first, and the money will be distributed by the Manchester City Council.

Pakistan last visited India in December 2012 for a limited overs series that included three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20I).

While Pakistan hold a 2-1 lead over their fierce rivals and neighbours in the Champions Trophy, it is India who have won 10 out of the 11 contests at the World Cup and World T20 tournaments between the two sides.

The two Asian neighbours have not played a full bilateral series after the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008. The cash-strapped PCB not only appealed to the BCCI to honour ICC cricket commitments, but also threatened to sue it for breach of contract and claim compensation.

The PCB has already sent a legal notice to BCCI claiming damages in tune of Dollars 60 million (Rs 387 crore approx) for allegedly not honouring the MoU that had stated five bilateral series in the cycle between 2015-2023.

The two boards had signed an MoU in 2014 according to which the two countries were to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023.
