On the evening of Donald Trump's announcement that the U.S. would pull out of the Paris climate deal, Emmanuel Macron launched a three-pronged communications blitz against Trump about the perilous consequences of his decision. Others slammed Trump for what they characterized as reckless abandonment.
"For America, the country that defeated fascism and communism, to now have a president who has run up the white flag of defeat against this global threat of climate change is just pathetic", he said. In New York, Cuomo announced he would use executive orders to ensure his state continues to abide by the Paris agreement.
And the rest of us understand that the economic impact of Paris on our own industrial states will be detrimental on our jobs and our nation's economic growth.
Reuters said virtually every nation voluntarily committed to steps aimed at curbing global emissions of "greenhouse" gases such as carbon dioxide generated from burning of fossil fuels.
President Trump, in his remarks Thursday afternoon, pointed out that China's emissions alone would totally wipe out the gains from all USA carbon reductions through 2030, adding to his point about the economic burden that the Accords would have placed on the country.
Trump in new attack on German trade tactics and defence spend
They followed Chancellor Angela Merkel's warning on Sunday that the United States and Britain may no longer be completely reliable partners.
"If we do nothing, our children will know a world of migrations, of wars, of shortage", Macron noted.
The EU's climate commissioner, Miguel Arias Cañete, told the Guardian that "the EU and China are joining forces to forge ahead on the implementation of the Paris agreement and accelerate the global transition to clean energy".
While stating that France does still believe in the United States, he did present a potentially unsafe future ahead if nothing is done to combat climate change.
Italy, France and Germany have issued a collective statement dismissing US President Donald Trump's suggestion of revising the global pact, hours after the latter made a decision to "get out" from the Paris climate accord.
A historic mistake. The world is moving forward together on climate change.

People took to Twitter to share their depressing thoughts on Trump's latest move. After Trump's inauguration, the company urged the administration to remain committed to the accord, both in private correspondence and an open letter with other USA corporate giants, including Apple, Intel and Morgan Stanley, that was printed in major newspapers over the last few weeks. The Paris accord, which was negotiated and signed during the Obama administration, was celebrated as a crowning achievement in the fight against climate change. He noted that private businesses in the USA have already made clear their support for the Paris agreement, which "opened the floodgates for businesses, scientists, and engineers to unleash high-tech, low-carbon investment and innovation on an unprecedented scale". 12 years in, the U.S.is halfway to that goal.
The decision by President Trump especially hammers our future-our grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on, who will forever ask why America chose to align itself with Syria and Nicaragua and not participate in this landmark effort to save our planet.
The president's decision to quit the 196-party accord sparked indignation at home and overseas, with former president Barack Obama saying the United States was "joining a handful of nations that reject the future".
In a Facebook post Wednesday, Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, also criticized Trump's intent to withdraw from the climate pact.
"He reiterated that the United States under the Trump administration, will be the cleanest and most environmentally friendly country on Earth. Withdrawing from the agreement would cause us to lose this influence", Reichert wrote.
Not even Elon Musk could sway Trump on the Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement entered into force on November 4, 2016 - so this means the U.S. would have to stay with it until November 2019.
Trump was correct when he said the objective of the Paris treaty was to redistribute wealth from the U.S.to China, India and the developing world, and to weaken its economy compared to Europe. It's a hoax. I mean, it's a money-making industry, OK?
