Irving powers Cavaliers over Warriors to end flawless run

10 June 2017

Golden State Warriors took a 3-0 lead over defending champions Cleveland Cavaliers with a 118-113 victory in the best-of-seven NBA Finals.

The Warriors lead the best-of-7 NBA Finals 3-0 entering Game 4 Friday, June 9, at Cleveland and have won 15 consecutive playoff games, the longest streak in North American major pro sports history. They became the first team to triumph after falling into a 3-1 finals deficit when they beat the Warriors in seven games a year ago.

The Cavs were determined not to let the Warriors celebrate on their floor for the second time in three years, and it was Cleveland, not Golden State, which busted Finals scoring records in the first half.

The Cavs could at least momentarily stall Golden State's momentum, and keep their visitors' locker room dry, by breaking up the Warriors' ideal playoffs with a win Friday. They don't figure to shoot as poorly again at home, nor should the Cavaliers expect to have a 39-point advantage from behind the arc."I can't foresee them coming to Oracle and hitting 24 3s", Green said.James said after Game 3 that it takes an A-plus-plus game to beat the Warriors, and the Cavs delivered one Friday. James also tied Magic Johnson for the most career triple-doubles in the Finals with his eighth in Game 2. "So tonight was who we are, we made shots, and defensively I thought we were pretty good". But listen, at the end of the day we just got some resilient guys.

"We were in attack mode", James said.

But Labour chiefs accused her of creating an unstable platform ahead of the upcoming meetings with European Union bureaucrats. But speaking outside Number 10 yesterday the Prime Minister said: "What the country needs more than ever is certainty".

But it's one they had to have, and a series that wasn't living up to its hype and seemed headed for a quick conclusion is California bound for Game 5 on Monday night.

Kevin Durant scored 35 points but the Warriors could never slow down the Cavs and missed their chance for the NBA's first ideal postseason. The Warriors are looking to become the first team ever to go undefeated in a single playoffs and can wrap up a 16-0 run with a win Friday in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

At the end, Cleveland fans chanted "Cavs in seven".

"We obviously know how hard it is to win a championship, what all goes into it and how important each game is". For now, we should enjoy - you're not going to see another offesnsive night like this.

The Golden State Warriors didn't get the NBA Finals sweep against the Cleveland Cavaliers they were hoping for.

"Kevin Durant is a once in a lifetime player", Thomas said, "I don't think our league has ever seen a player like a Kevin Durant who is so unique. He's been an fantastic player in this league for a long time and I think he senses this is his time, his moment, his team". In the 137-116 win, James scored 31 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kyrie Irving scored 40 points, Kevin Love added 23, J.R. Smith hit five threes, and Tristan Thompson erupted for 10 rebounds.

A Durant 3-pointer at the buzzer brought the Warriors a little closer. Pachulia and Shumpert each received a technical foul.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said the Cavs set the physical tone early and everything fell in line for them after that. In the scrum, Pachulia appeared to kick Iman Shumpert-who was standing over him-once and punch him twice. As this was being sorted out, Todd Leebow, a friend of James got involved in an argument with Golden State's bench and was asked to leave.

The Cavaliers set a Finals record with 49 points in the first quarter and led by 16 when it was over.

The Cavaliers rolled through the Eastern Conference with a 12-1 record, yet are on the verge of being swept in the NBA Finals.
