London attack: Three arrested in east London

10 June 2017

On Wednesday, police searching for French national Xavier Thomas, 45, said they had recovered a body from the Thames, bringing the death toll to eight.

The body was found late on Tuesday near London's former dockyards in Limehouse, about two kilometres downstream from London Bridge.

Thomas's next of kin have been told, police said, but formal identification has not yet taken place. She was struck by the attackers' van and died in her fiance's arms.

The Times newspaper also said it had obtained footage of the men laughing and joking five days before the attack as they met outside the Ummah Fitness Centre, a gym in east London where Butt trained.

Seven people were killed and dozens wounded in the attacks by three assailants near London Bridge.

Ilford, which is near Barking, has become the focus of the inquiry after it emerged that terrorists Khuram Butt and Youssef Zaghba had links to the area and there have been a series of raids in the wake of the attack.

The shares were purchased at an average price of GBX 525 ($6.74) per share, with a total value of £37,275 ($47,880.54). Shares of Supergroup PLC ( LON SGP ) traded down 0.20% during mid-day trading on Thursday, hitting GBX 1510.00.

He said Zaghba was always tracked by Italian intelligence officers while in the country and that United Kingdom authorities were informed.

Italian authorities said Zaghba had been stopped and questioned in Italy but had not been charged with any crime.

In March 2016, Italian officers stopped Zaghba at Bologna airport and found IS-related materials on his mobile phone.

Police said Zaghba was one of three men who drove a van into a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge over the weekend, then exited the vehicle and began stabbing people before all three were shot dead by police.

As investigators hunted for potential accomplices linked to the three attackers on Thursday, voters cast ballots in a British general election that has spotlighted security concerns.

"We are paying a heavy cost in these attacks", Macron said.

London Attacker Told Italian Police He 'Wanted to Be a Terrorist'
His passport and cellphone were seized, but he got them back after a court determined there wasn't enough evidence to arrest him. He was not charged, but local police monitored him carefully and tipped off Britain when he subsequently moved to London .

The authorities have said Butt was known to police and the domestic security service MI5 but there was no intelligence that an attack was being planned.

Youssef Zaghba is said to have told Italian police "I'm going to be a terrorist" when he was stopped trying to travel to Syria previous year.

"A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorist acts", police said.

Scotland Yard named Zaghba as the third and final attacker, but reports from Italy immediately indicated that the security services knew of his attempts to travel to Syria in an apparent attempt to join Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Last night 15 people remained in a critical condition and Australian nurse Kirsty Boden was named as the third fatality.
