India knock out South Africa to reach Champions Trophy semi-finals

12 June 2017

Much had been anticipated prior to the commencement of the ODI between South Africa and India at the Oval on Sunday that Proteas would come hard at India in the crucial encounter.

But Pakistan bounced back to beat top-ranked South Africa by 19 runs on Wednesday at Edgbaston - the ground where they had succumbed so to India just days earlier. India then comfortably knocked off the runs in 38 overs, Shikhar Dhawan (78) and captain Virat Kohli (76no) hitting fine half centuries.

Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 76.

Monday's match in Cardiff has the look of a "dead rubber" about it after Pakistan suffered a 124-run thrashing by arch-rivals and Champions Trophy title-holders India in their opening Group B match.

Finally, here are the expected teams for the last of the 12 group stage matches in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy competition.

After being put in, South Africa's slow but serviceable start was their only period of parity with Kohli's men. When asked how you can go from being so bad to so good in the space of two games, Mohammad Hafeez said: "As a team, we're always very aggressive".

The India vs South Africa match in the Champions Trophy will be telecast live on Star Sports 1, Star Sports HD 1, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD and free to air channel DD National.

Fellow Republicans Press Trump About Tapes
Reporter: [Comey] did say, under oath, that you told him to let the Flynn. that you hoped the Flynn investigation would go away. The president has said Comey's testimony vindicates his assertion that Trump himself wasn't personally under investigation.

Perera also made a telling contribution before having to retire hurt, and Mathews said: "It's a shame to lose Kusal, he batted extremely well - but Dhananjaya de Silva is also a very good player".

What did the losing captain AB de Villiers say?

De Villiers was left a yard short following great work from Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni, before Miller exited in even more farcical fashion with he and Du Plessis running to the same end.

AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis were at the crease with SA on 116/2. Or will an equally surprising Pakistan side manage the same sort of consistency they found in their rain-shortened match against South Africa and secure the final semifinal spot for themselves?

"When the opportunity comes your way, you have to grab it".

"I don't know how [the run outs] happened". I wouldn't like to blame guys out there.

In the first 10 overs, they scored only 35 runs, as India operated with Bhunveshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin (one over). He couldn't rally the tail, and the innings finished, appropriately, on a run out.

USA envoy Haley in Jerusalem vows to defend Israel at UN
Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said too many members of the world body are guilty of human rights abuses. Later in the day, Haley stressed that the USA doesn't "seek to leave the Human Rights Council".

"Getting their big hitters early was a bonus".

"When you get two run outs pretty quickly, the mindset totally changes".

"We never got going".

Imran Tahir after scoring one was the third South African to get dismissed run-out as JP Duminy's call for a second run turned out into another disaster as the South African innings ended on 191. He took 1-43. Before they brought in their latest replacement, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka had been down to seven batsmen. Kumar got in the act with two dismissals in as many balls after he caught the edges of Kagiso Rabada [5] and Morne Morkel [0].

Pakistan will likely be unchanged after their excellent performance against the Proteas and they have little reason to make a change.

India began their reply positively and both openers had struck sixes before Rohit Sharma drove loosely at Morkel and was caught by wicketkeeper De Kock for 12.

Kohli walked into medium-pacer Andile Phehlukwayo and launched him over mid-on for his first six, and reached his fifty off 71 balls.

This story has been corrected to show that the Pittsburgh Penguins had 14 straight postseason wins in only one season, not two. And now that you can look ahead to Friday, all our focus is on that. "We've still got a lot of work left to do".
