The Golden State Warriors successfully quashed the bad memories of 2016 as they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 to clinch the National Basketball Association championship at the Oracle Arena.
That's what the Cavaliers must do after falling to the Warriors in the final for the second time in three seasons, having rallied from 3-1 down a year ago to win the crown when James led the series in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks-another unprecedented feat.
The main headliner was Kevin Durant, who infamously joined the Warriors as a free agent from western conference rivals Oklohama City Thunder following last year's finals.
Counter-protests outnumber anti-Muslim hate marches across the US
Almost dozen men carrying sidearms belonging to the anti-government Oath Keepers were on hand, invited by ACT to provide security. Counter-protesters and civil rights advocates gathered in some cities to push back against the marches.
"For me personally, I left everything on the floor every game, all five games", James said. "I'm just so happy to be a part of it. I'm ready to do it again".
But he offered a glimpse of what more he could offer by averaging more than 30 points per game during a 4-1 series win over the Cavaliers in the Finals. The guard, drafted out of UNLV, scored six points and gathered three rebounds in about 11 and half minuets of Game 5.
"Experience is the best teacher in life, and he's just experiencing and experiencing and experiencing", said James. Letting Game 3 get away from us and then coming back to this gym, we knew it was going to be tough, but I thought our mindset was right. In the last couple of years, Durant has been working out with the best player in the world in Cleveland Cavaliers' superstar LeBron James, and the has looked up to James for his ability to persevere through rough times in his career to win it all.
The Warriors, once again, showed their team depth with Andre Iguodala scoring 20 off the bench, including several emphatic dunks and three-point shots that seemed to rejuvenate the Warriors and their fans.

Durant shot 14 for 20 and Curry - the two-time reigning league MVP who took a back seat as the new big star got acclimated - finished off a brilliant postseason. This was a special post-season for the Warriors who only lost one match in the entire Playoffs en route to their awesome title.
Correction: This piece originally stated James achieved a triple-double in Game Five. Thompson and Smith confronted West and all three of those players got technical fouls.
The Cavs kept the series alive by winning their second home game of the series, and the nerves likely started creeping in among Warriors fans after the visitors led for much of the first half in game five in Oakland.
"They gave everything they had, and we fought, we competed and we never gave in, but they beat us", he added.
