Finals coaches ponder Warriors' spot among their epic teams

16 June 2017

Last year's epic collapse by the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals left a bad taste in the mouth to all of their players.

No team has escaped a 3-0 deficit to win an NBA playoff series but the Cavs made the greatest NBA Finals comeback a year ago from 3-1 down to beat the Warriors.

But the challenge is far more hard this time, not only because of the bigger deficit but also given the sheer talent of a Warriors group looking to become the first National Basketball Association team to win a title without suffering a single postseason loss. In the Finals, they won Game 1 by 22, Game 2 by 19 and Game 3 by five after coming from behind.

James finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for his ninth career triple-double in the Finals, breaking the record of eight held by Magic Johnson.

The record for any Finals quarter was 47, done by the Los Angeles Lakers in the third quarter against Boston on June 3, 1984.

Taylor Swift returns to Spotify the same day Katy releases album
Katy Perry has a new album out on the same day. "I'm not Buddha - things irritate me", she continued about the perceived slights. You can listen to Swift's entire music catalog on Spotify, and other streaming services at Midnight ET.

The discouraging fact for the Cavaliers is that the team can't get much more out of its two best players.

The Golden State Warriors have a 3-0 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, and it doesn't seem like the defending champs will win a game.

Kevin Love made six 3-pointers and added 23 points for Cleveland, which made 24 3s, another Finals mark.

"No matter who I'm going against, if I'm going against four Hall of Famers ... or if I'm going against two or whatever the case may be, I'm always chose to play the game, I'm not one to judge if it's fair or not".

Rather than rue the missed opportunity in last year's Finals after blowing a 3-1 lead, Green looked for the silver lining and said he found it, "If we win the championship, I'm like 99 percent sure we don't get him". With that, James walked off the dais, ending a news conference in which he addressed the dawn of Golden State's dynasty, his future and criticism for a play late in Wednesday's loss. With his "very next call" Draymond hit up KD.

As it turned out, Durant indeed chose the Dubs despite having a multitude of teams showing interest in him, as he believed his best chance of winning a title is in Oakland. Instead of being offended about the old-timers taking shots at his team, he tried to inject some sensibility to the discussion.

LeBron James knew what might happen when Kevin Durant merged with the Warriors, a 73-win team out for revenge. "Why not? If I become an owner, I'm going to try to sign everybody" (see full story). They were playing at what arguably was the most recent nadir of the league, in the early- to mid-2000s, when the NBA Finals became an annual slugfest with the goal of trying to reach 90 points (these Pistons averaged 90.1 points per game).

"They're definitely a different team than they were past year that's definitely in full effect that we're all fully aware of", the Cavs' Kyrie Irving said. "Why not?" James said.

Kyrie Irving didn't play his best so far this series, despite finally going off in a Game 3 loss. "I mean, who am I to say if it's fair or not?"
