16 June 2017

Mumbai: A special TADA (Special Terrorism and Disruptive Activities Act) court in Mumbai held gangster Abu Salem guilty under charges of terrorist activities in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

The special TADA court has found six of the accused guilty, while accused Abdul Qayyum was acquitted.

Abu Salem Abdul Qayoom Ansari, extradited from Portugal, is one of the main conspirators, and was very close to co-accused Anis Ibrahim Kaskar (Dawood's brother).

However, all accused were acquitted for the charge of waging war against the nation.

Those found guilty are: Abu Salem who was extradited from Portugal in 2005, Mustafa Dossa who was deported from the UAE, Mohammed Tahir Merchant alias Tahir Takla, Karimullah Khan, Riyaz Siddiqui and Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan, said Public Prosecutor Deepak Salve.

Wife of alleged Congressional shooter speaks
A complaint had also been made against Hodgkinson in March this year after he fired 50 rounds into a wooded area near homes. Suzanne Hodgkinson said she did not consider it odd that he left so abruptly, and maybe her husband just wanted a break.

On March 12, 1993, a series of 12 blasts had rocked the economic capital of India in which 257 people were killed and 713 persons were injured in the terror attack.

With no other accused currently in custody, the verdict today will be the last in the case for now.

Three accused including Salem confessed to their crime during investigations carried out by the CBI over the years in the blasts case.

Of the 123 who faced trial as part of BBC-I, 100 were convicted and 23 were acquitted by the then TADA judge P D Kode, who later retired as a judge of Bombay High Court.

The decision was rendered by a Special TADA Court in Mumbai, reports NDTV.

Shimkus not present at Wednesday's baseball shooting
None of Hodgkinson's posts suggested he would end up opening fire at a baseball field outside Washington on Wednesday morning. WANG: Well, at this point, the FBI's confirmed that the shooter used a 9-millimeter handgun and also a 7.62-caliber rifle.

The arguments for sentencing in the case (for six convicts) is likely to commence on Monday. In 2015, Yakub Memon was hanged in connection with the same case.

The attacks, which occurred on March 12, 1993, remain the largest coordinated terror incident to have taken place on Indian soil in terms of the number of casualties, according to CNN affiliate News18.

For perpetrating their heinous acts, the conspirators acquired and smuggled deadly arms and ammunition, detonators, hand grenades and almost three tonnes of the deadly RDX (Research & Development Explosive - OR Cyclotrimethylene Trinitramine), which was used for the first time after World War II on such a scale.

It said that the conspirators smuggled fire-arms, ammunitions, detonators, hand grenades and highly explosive substances like RDX into India and stored it.

While Dossa got weapons from Pakistan and Dubai, Shaikh and Khan organised the offloading of the consignment.

The FBI Probe Expands to Trump Personally
Mark Corallo , a spokesman for Trump's lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, denounced the investigation in a statement to The Washington Post . The Washington Post previously reported that Trump also asked Rogers and Coats to push back against the FBI's investigation.

The court said Dossa, Salem, Merchant and Khan were among the "main conspirators" in the case, reported ANI. They also sent men from India to Pakistan via Dubai for arms training.
