As London mourned the victims of a building inferno that left 30 people dead, Queen Elizabeth reflected on the somber national mood Saturday, a day after she visited the site. British media have reported that contractors installed a cheaper, less flame-resistant type of exterior paneling on the 24-story tower in a renovation that was completed just previous year.
A representative of the families who met with May and spoke to reporters briefly after leaving 10th Downing Street said "we will be making this in the community, with the community".
Many residents of the building remain unaccounted for, and police said numerous remains may never be identified. "And once it's safe, they are going to go into the building", he said while trying to pacify the crowd".
The fire forced residents to flee through black smoke down the single stairwell, jump out of windows or even drop their children from the 120-apartment building.
Condoling the incident earlier, Londor Mayor Sadiq Khan said, "The bad news, I'm afraid, is lots of people died in the fire". He asked anyone who was in the tower and survived to contact police immediately. The reason we had to pause the search and recovery yesterday was for the safety of our staff.
79 people presumed dead in London tower block fire
Saturday's newspapers conveyed the sense of anger on the streets . "This is an absolutely bad fire that took place", May said. Police also identified the first known victim of the fire, 23-year-old Mohammed Al-Habjali, who lived in Grenfell Tower .
Council leader Nicholas Paget-Brown defended his authority's response, telling BBC's The World This Weekend: "This was a huge, sudden disaster, a complete tragedy".
Public anger has been mounting over the British government's handling of the blaze, with Prime Minister Theresa May admitting that the response from authorities had not been good enough.
"Sadly, our work will be ongoing for many, many weeks".
May announced on Friday that her government has set up a £5 million ($8.4 million Cdn) "discretionary fund" to help pay for food, clothing, personal supplies and funerals.
More than 250 firefighters tackled the blaze in north Kensington as London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said the scene looked like a "disaster movie".
Justices take on fight over partisan electoral maps
Republicans aggressively gerrymandered Wisconsin after they gained unified control of state government in the 2010 midterm wave. In 2012, Republicans got just 48.6 percent of the vote statewide, but won 60 of the state's 99 Assembly districts.
Around 70 people are missing, according to Britain's Press Association, and identification of the victims is proving very hard.
"The residents of Grenfell Tower, families who have lost loved ones, and the emergency services who have been working so hard to help them have been through some of the most harrowing and traumatic experiences imaginable", Mrs May said.
Nisha Parti, a film producer who has been helping organise help for victims of the fire in Kensington, revealed the local council is giving the measly sum to survivors when they are checked in to hotels. This relies on dental records, fingerprints and DNA when possible and also features like tattoos or scars.
"Normally an inquest will only take place at the end of the criminal investigation, so the idea of an inquiry is important because that can, in some circumstances, happen much more quickly and I think speed is of the essence here". He also explained that the figure was based on reports from the public and feared it might go up. Hundreds have been left homeless, putting more pressure on officials in a city plagued by a chronic housing shortage.
Despite that outcome, fire experts say "stay put" is still the best advice - as long as the building has proper fire-suppression protections, such as multiple stairwells, sprinkler systems, fireproof doors and flame-resistant construction materials, some of which were lacking in the London blaze.

I'm sure we will have a conversation about it pretty soon". "I have a take, but I'm going to leave it to myself right now", Durant added.
