Top US Republican lawmaker Steve Scalise remains hospitalised in critical condition after being shot this week but he has improved, his surgeon said Friday as he expressed optimism about the legislator's prospects for recovery.
After Saturday's surgery, Scalise is in serious condition but continues to show signs of improvement, according to a statement from MedStar Washington Hospital Center released on behalf of his family.
He opened fire at the Republican congressional baseball team practice in Alexandria, Va. after asking another lawmaker whether the team practicing was a group of Republicans or Democrats.
