MAR 12, 1993 A series of 12 explosions rock Mumbai resulting in 257 fatalities and injuries to 713 others.

The trial is against seven people, the most well-known of which is Abu Salem.

Sanjay Dutt and many others surrendered before the TADA court in Mumbai in May 2013 after the Supreme Court upheld their conviction.

Salem, however, has been acquitted of other charges that were framed against him under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) initially.

When Dawood Ibrahim and company fled Mumbai after executing the serial blasts, it was Abu Salem who sat at the helm of the organisation and called the shots.

The six accused were convicted for terrorist acts and possession of unauthorised arms as well as criminal conspiracy.

In addition, Abdul Qayyum Shaikh, who was acquitted by the court, had allegedly sent arms and ammunition from overseas which landed at Dighi Jerry in Mumbai just prior to the blasts taking place.

Friday's verdict brings and end to the long-running trial, which centered on the role played by Abu Salem - who authorities accused of being a gangster - in supplying weapons to the attackers.
