'Number of casualties' in London after vehicle hits pedestrians

"People here say the attacker probably thought the place was a mosque and people just leaving late Ramadan prayers".

He said: "During the night, ordinary British citizens were set upon while they were going about their lives, completing their night worship".

Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim organization, said that based on eyewitness reports it seems to be a "deliberate attack against innocent Muslims".

Earlier on June 3, three militants wearing fake suicide vests ran over pedestrians and went on a stabbing spree in bars in the London Bridge area.

Two other people were treated at the scene for light injuries.

During Ramadan - the name of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and the holiest time of their year - Muslims fast daily from dawn to dusk and focus on prayer, purification and acts of charity.

The leader of the opposition Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn also tweeted about the crash.

Police have said the crash caused several casualties and that one person has been arrested.

Numerous people hurt after a vehicle struck pedestrians in north London are thought to have just finished worshipping at the Finsbury Park Mosque. One person has been arrested.

The attack happened close to a mosque and a Muslim centre in north London shortly after midnight. The London Ambulance Service tweeted that it had sent "number of resources" to the site after being called in around 12.15 am.
