76ers trade for No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's draft

20 June 2017

Moving up two spots assures the Sixers of another marquee player in Washington guard Markelle Fultz. Starting in 1985, the National Basketball Association implemented a lottery system in order to determine which team receives the No. 1 overall pick in that year's draft.

The Celtics agreed to terms with Philadelphia last night on a trade that will send the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's National Basketball Association draft to the Sixers in exchange for this year's third overall pick and a protected 2018 Lakers first-round pick.

But if that Lakers pick doesn't fall between No. 2 and No. 5 in the 2018 draft, Philadelphia will instead send a 2019 first-rounder to Boston that it acquired from the Sacramento Kings.

Monday morning rain, with afternoon sun
Notably cooler conditions are expected for the latter half of the work week and through the weekend. Today's forecast calls for scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m.

Markelle Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 25 games last season for the University of Washington Huskies and will likely be heading to Philadelphia.

"I think even before the lottery, we've been evaluating these kids for a couple of years, and we felt like it was very close with the top handful of players, and we still feel that way", Ainge said in a conference call.

"Most importantly, we're taking the next step, I believe, in formulating a solid young core of players that ultimately will lead to a successful and sustainable product". The trade leaves the Celtics with the No.3 overall pick this year along with a future 2018 pick (via Lakers).

Trump meets Poroshenko for brief 'drop-in' visit
It's still not clear what Poroshenko will get for Ukraine from the meeting with Trump. Poroshenko said he hopes the two countries can engage in "effective collaboration".

"We are not pledging anything that mortgages our future", said Colangelo, whose team also has its own pick in 2018.

The player Philadelphia wants is clear: The 76ers wouldn't say it Monday, but they're going to take Fultz barring something cataclysmic happening before Thursday. Fultz, 19, is attractive for Philadelphia because he can play point and shooting guard. The Sixers wouldn't be getting the player they absolutely wanted, but would settle for a player that could help out their franchise anyway. They also, of course, will be trading their No. 3 overall pick in this year's National Basketball Association draft as well.

Fultz will join Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in 2016 who missed his rookie season due to a fractured right foot, in the Sixers' promising nucleus. Cleveland could have a busy summer as it looks to revamp its roster after losing to the Golden State Warriors in the Finals. I'm a pretty good shot blocker for a point guard, so I think helping them with that, everything would pretty much help with that. He was the top freshman scorer in the country.

Kovalev Gets Shafted by Ward and the Referee Again!
Ward stuck to his word, stopping Kovalev in the eighth round to retain the IBF, WBO and WBA world light heavyweight titles . Ward reckons he would do well against bigger guys because he has good stamina, saying it's his dream to move up weights.

General manager David Griffin's contract expires June 30, and it remains unclear if he will stay with the organization he guided to its first championship and three straight NBA Finals. We had heard a number of versions of the trade over the weekend, but on Monday we learned the official details regarding the protections on the future pick that will go to the Celtics.
