The Senate version is expected to adhere similarly to those cuts, but based on reports outlining the discussions, some changes could make the bill more politically palatable for GOP lawmakers. Led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), they are barrelling toward a vote next week on a bill that as of Wednesday afternoon they had not released to the public - eliciting expressions of concern about the rushed process even from Republicans.

Though a member of the 13-senator working group McConnell had tasked with piecing legislation together, Lee said he's not seen the emerging bill and "whole-heartedly" shares the frustration of constituents unhappy over the secrecy.

"I think the transparency issue has been somewhat overblown", he said.

Majorities of voters in both Democratic and Republican districts questioned for the Maryland poll oppose the AHCA provision that would give states the power to allow insurers to offer health plans that do not include certain minimum health benefits, as well as the provisions that would tend to reduce Medicaid coverage.

After months of secret negotiations, Senate Republicans are set to unveil their Obamacare overhaul Thursday, in hopes of voting next week before a holiday recess, leaders announced Tuesday.

Senate Democrats, meanwhile, have been invoking a procedural rule to delay action on the measure. The Democrats have criticized the behind-the-scenes meetings, and blocked Senate committees on Wednesday from meeting for over two hours in protest.

According to NBC News, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the announcement on Tuesday, June 20, that he would be releasing a "discussion draft" of the bill to the members of the Republican party and the American public on Thursday.

"The Senate will soon have a chance to turn the page on this failed law", said the Kentucky Republican. Their states expanded Medicaid under the A.C.A. and stand to lose billions of dollars in federal funds under the House and Senate bills. "I've been talking about a plan with heart", Trump said.

The Washington Post also reported that the Senate version would still radically alter the Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare", by reducing taxes created by the 2010 law, limiting the expansion of Medicaid, reconfiguring subsidies and giving states wider abilities to opt-out of regulations.

"We want to follow the House model there, that federal money should not be used to pay for abortions, period", Barrasso told CNN.

Collins, a moderate Republican from ME, said she wanted to read an assessment by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on its impact on cost and insurance coverage before making her decision.
