Afghan kills two US soldiers in 'insider attack'

So-called "green-on-blue" attacks-when Afghan soldiers or police turn their guns on worldwide troops-have been a major problem during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) long years fighting alongside Afghan forces.

Currently, there are about 8,400 US troops and another 5,000 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces in Afghanistan to train and assist Afghan forces against the Taliban and conduct counter-terrorism missions.

The Achin district has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces and militants of the Islamic State (IS) group over the past two years. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says in a statement that a Taliban loyalist had infiltrated the Afghan army "just to attack foreign forces".
