The distribution center in Bartow County would be Lidl's fourth regional headquarters and distribution center in the USA, joining others in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland, according to a Monday announcement by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal.
Lidl hopes to differentiate itself in the USA market by building smaller stores that reduce the retailer's overhead costs.

Whole Foods shares were trading just above that level on Friday, as investors saw negligible regulatory risk to the deal closing. Courtney Hiddeman and her family live right down the street from the Whole Foods "world headquarters" on Bowie Street in Austin.
The new distribution center will support Lidl's expansion in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. "Our Cartersville facility will help us efficiently deliver top quality goods to our future customers throughout the area". Proctor said the company chose Bartow County because of its workforce, central location to other distribution centers and because "it is a great place for our employees to work and live". The German-owned chain will launch a new facility, establish a new regional headquarters, and open its next wave of locations. It's an investment of an estimated $100 million over the next five years that's expected to create 250 jobs over that time span, the Georgia governor said.
Lidl US opened its first nine USA stores June 15 in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Police question 'troubled' anti-Muslim van attacker
The suspect, who is believed to have been from Weston-super-Mare, remains in custody at a south London police station. One man died at the scene, but police are still investigating if the death is directly related to the van attack .
The four new stores opening on July 13 will be in Chesapeake, VA (4033 Portsmouth Blvd), Culpeper, VA (15169 Brandy Rd), Havelock, NC (547 US Hwy 70 West) and Wake Forest, NC (1120 South Main St). "We are excited to announce today that we will be bringing the Lidl experience to even more communities in Virginia and North Carolina in a few short weeks".
Lidl locations opened earlier in the month in Kinston and Greenville. Lidl offers consumers a 20,000-square-foot layout to shop in, with organic and gluten-free options, amongst other offerings. The chain now poses a threat to US -based grocers such as Kroger, Ingles and even Target, as well as a discount chain such as Aldi, because of Lidl's "lowest possible prices" promise.
