Brittany Lincicome recently told the Chicago Tribune that she hoped President Donald Trump skipped the U.S. Women's Open to keep the focus on the golfers.

Other contenders include surprise victor of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship Danielle Kang, whose triumph two weeks ago was her first win on tour, while 2014 Champion Michelle Wie may be in with a shout after hitting form over the last couple of months.

A local protest is expected to be staged off the Trump National Golf Club grounds at some point during the tournament.

World No. 1 ranked So Yeon Ryu of South Korea is the only player on the tour to a couple of times in the 18 events played. Brooks Koepka of the United States won $2.16 million by winning the tournament.

When pressed on the Trump topic, Lang said, "I would love to answer a golf question for you if you have one". "You feel like anybody could win on a given week".

She led going into the final round but sunk her chances on the ninth when she tried to clear a creek out of the rough and instead found water, leading to a double bogey and missing the playoff by two shots. "Bones has a career's worth of experience being immersed in the most pressure-packed situations on golf's biggest stages working alongside Phil, one of the most cerebral champions in the sport". "So, I think getting the speed right and, because you might be a long distance away, I think that's going to be super important".

"Well, I think everybody just trying to avoid political questions because I don't think they get - I don't think they will get any advantage from saying whether they agree or disagree", said Inbee Park, a native of South Korea who won the U.S. Women's Open in 2008 and 2013 and is ranked seventh in the world. Ahead of the New Hampshire Primaries Trump said he'd never play golf. "It's a great championship, but you have got a shorter field in who can win this championship". "It was good to take those couple of days off to refresh and then get energized for this stretch of events". It took me a little while to learn that, to say I don't need to play my best golf.

"I just think we are golfers", Inkster continued.

The biggest event in women's golf is being held at Trump National Golf Club, and the first day of formal interviews Tuesday had as much to do with the Republican president as it did about the tournament. After Trump's lewd comments from a 2005 episode of Access Hollywood surfaced last fall, three Democratic senators requested that the USGA reconsider Bedminster as a venue.

The USGA first announced that Trump's Bedminster club would host the 2017 installment of the Open in 2012.

Wimbledon: Murray out, Mueller out of gas
Murray was cruising at 6-1 but Querrey saved three set points before the Scot took it on the fourth, winning the tie-break 7-4. The final score still results in a convincing win for Murray though, with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory ensuing.

Whether Trump, who turned this patch of land in Somerset County into one of the nation's top golf courses, will stay in that structure remains to be seen.
