President Trump, first lady arrive in Paris

An Elabe poll showed that 59% of French people approved of Mr Macron's decision to invite Mr Trump.

Air Force One landed at Paris Orly airport, south of the city center, early Thursday morning.

According to the Élysée Palace, President Macron's office, Trump will be welcomed by the French leader tomorrow at Les Invalides, the site of Napoleon's tomb and a military museum.

The two presidents are scheduled to host a joint news conference - likely the first time that reporters will be able to ask Trump about the latest developments in the investigation of possible collusion between his campaign and Russians who hacked top Democratic officials.

Later, the U.S. leader will tour Napoleon's tomb at the Les Invalides before sitting down for extended security talks with Macron at the Élysée Palace.

They will later dine with their wives at a restaurant on the second floor of Paris' Eiffel Tower.

Just days after leaving Europe and the G20 summit, Donald Trump is already preparing for his next jaunt - this time to France.

Trump and Macron appear to have little in common, with their views at odds on everything from globalisation to immigration.

Macron met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel before meeting with Trump Thursday. The treaty was signed by nearly 200 nations in 2016 and considered a major achievement by Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama. First lady Melania Trump is accompanying the president on the trip to France.

There will also be one USA naval aviator who will pilot a French Rafale fighter plane as part of the festivities.

Mr Macron supports intervention against Syria's government in response to its use of chemical weapons and could prove an important ally as the Trump administration seeks to increase pressure against Mr Assad.
