Wimbledon 2017: Women's results - Semifinals

14 July 2017

Winning never gets old for Venus Williams.

She faces the victor of Venus Williams and Johanna Konta. Muguruza, who was born in Venezuela and raised in Spain, cruised in her semifinal, 6-1, 6-1 over Magdalena Rybarikova.

"I've played some good tennis in different points of my life", Williams said in somewhat of an understatement. "It's been a blessing".

"I couldn't have asked for more but I'll ask for more", Williams said after the match. One more win would be fantastic.

"Well, I think she did what she does well".

Williams continued her strong serve in the second set to finish off Konta in one hour, 16 minutes.

Djokovic wants tie-break final sets
Wrapping up the women's quarter-finals, big-hitting American Coco Vandeweghe faces Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova. The 37-year-old Williams made her Grand Slam debut at the 1997 French Open , seven months before Konjuh was born.

On No. 1 Court, Johanna Konta will be up first, followed by Rafael Nadal. It was a risky strategy, going for so much pace on a second serve, but it worked. Konta played quite well, especially early, and hit six aces - three in a single game - before Williams had one.

So the 37-year-old, carrying the hopes of the Williams clan while her younger sibling takes time out to have a baby, should be forgiven a moment of self-doubt after a clinical victory over Britain's Jo Konta on Thursday gave her a shot at another title.

With victory against Konta, she improved her overall record to a phenomenal 87-14 - a tally bettered only by Navratilova (120-14) and Chris Evert (96-15). It's been a very tumultuous couple of months for Williams and her family.

It was very hard for me to get a good foothold in the match. I tried to do the things she would do.

That hold was a brief reprieve as Muguruza slide a serve victor out wide powering through the 30-minute opening set with conviction.

That lack of big-game experience seemed to leave the 28-year-old paralysed by stage-fright and a limp double fault gifted Muguruza a break before the crowd had even got comfortable in their seats. I just try to hold my head up high, no matter what is happening in life.

Kit Harington auditions as Daenerys in 'Jimmy Kimmel' sketch
With this revelation, fans can expect to see Snow meeting both Daenerys ( Emilia Clarke ) and Cersei (Lena Heady). That or Meera got exhausted of lugging Bran around and left him out there for the Night King to find.

"Her being able to do that is why she is a five-time champion here, and why she is the champion that she is", said Konta. "No point was easy".

She won her 100th match at Wimbledon against Ostapenko and is projected to come back into the 10 as Serena Williams will go out for the first time since April 2012.

The remaining fourth-round matches will be played on the other show courts at the All England Club. Kontinen and Peers continued her success story after winning the ATP Finals previous year and the 2017 Australian Open.

Her flameout in the semifinal notwithstanding, Rybarikova was still pleased with her tournament. But she kept on going, and lately has returned to winning.

She is now projected to move to No.33 by reaching the semifinals and could make her Top 20 debut by reaching the final. That opened a run in which Williams collected 12 of 13 points and seized control.

The wind took just 67 minutes to the third time in his career to reach the final of the tournament series Grand slam.
