Defending champion Cubs trade for pitcher Quintana

16 July 2017

Hahn, knowing the call was about the most anticipated trade in Chicago baseball this season, ducked behind an exhibit to talk specifics. On Thursday, the Chicago White Sox finally traded starting pitcher Jose Quintana, but his destination won't be far away - he's heading to the Chicago Cubs for a package of four prospects, including the highly-touted Eloy Jimenez. Over the past year Chicago has traded Gleyber Torres, Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease, all top five prospects in their system.

Throughout the 2017 season to this point, Gray has compiled a 4-4 record to go along with a 4.00 ERA and 74 strikeouts.

And as much as I'd love to see the Cubs win two championships in a row, the rational side of me says that they're much more likely two win two in three years.

The Yankees and Red Sox are set for a day-night doubleheader at Fenway Park - with the way these AL East rivals drag through games, no telling what time in the wee hours they might eventually end. Their production has just taken a hit.

Arsene Wenger hails important debut goal for Alexandre Lacazette
I don't know about my future so I can't tell you more. 'I'm here in pre-season, I wanted to travel. Wenger thanked those fans for their support. "Overall I think it is a huge advantage".

Kyle Hendricks: Led the Majors with a 2.13 ERA in 2016. Quintana has a 2.80 career ERA in July. You don't just dump those pieces out of a rotation easily. After an under performed first, Arrieta will hope to start high the second half. The group, said Epstein, won the World Series and has a goal of winning more, but starting pitching was needed for that to happen.

Quintana has pitched better lately after a slow start and is 4-8 with a 4.49 ERA in 18 starts this season.

The Cubs' rotation, which has struggled this season with a combined 4.66 ERA, also needs to push the restart button heading out of the All-Star break.

It was undoubtedly a hefty price to pay, but Quintana is a flawless fit for this team.

New GOP Health Care Bill keeps Medicaid cuts, allows cheaper plans
AARP is one organization that has targeted Capito with advertisements urging people to call her office about the bill's effects. "This thing continues to evolve, but I think we're getting to a point now where we're very, very close", Perdue said .

But Quintana is only part of the answer to the Cubs' rotation woes.

As for how the Pelicans may fare with three of their top contributors now elsewhere, Milovich best describes that as a mixed bag.

Something else to keep in mind. The Cubs signed Jimenez for $2.8 million on August 1, 2013 as a foreign free agent. Hendricks has been on the DL for most of the season, and Lackey has been very inconsistent this year.

So if he's not in the long-term plans, maybe he's not in the short-term plans, either. However, one has to imagine he'd get a bit of fire in his belly to sharpen up his game if a trade were made that sent him to a contending team. GM Rick Hahn has now turned Quintana, Chris Sale and Adam Eaton into a stable of prospects headlined by Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Lucas Giolito and Reynoldo Lopez. (It later emerged that Rick Hahn and Theo Epstein ducked backstage at the All-Star FanFest to talk business.) Well, nearly no leaks.
