I know the players will talk very highly of him, that played for him and with him, until their days are done.

Baylor was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 1967 amateur draft. He made his Major League Baseball debut September 18, 1970, with the team. He didn't play much in 1970 and 1971, which was understandable: he was blocked by Frank Robinson.

After the '76 season, Baylor was part of the mass exodus from Oakland at the advent of free agency. It was with the Angels that he'd have his best season. In 1979, he was the AL MVP, leading the majors in RBIs (139) and runs (120). He made the All-Star team and was voted the AL MVP. He went on to play for the Yankees from 1983 to 1985, the Red Sox from 1986-to 1987, the Twins for a season in 1987, and back with the Athletics in 1988 before retiring as a player.

After news former Philadelphia Phillies catcher Darren Daulton passed away Sunday night at age 55, the baseball lost another notable name Monday morning.

He had career statistics of 338 home runs, 1,276 RBIs, 285 stolen bases and a.260 batting average. He managed from 1993-1998 with the Colorado Rockies as their first manager in their franchise's history, making the postseason in 1995.

Baylor battled multiple myeloma for the past 14 years, according to his family. Baylor remained a fixture in big league dugouts, however, serving as bench or hitting coach with the Mets, Mariners, Rockies, Diamondbacks and Angels through 2015.

Renowned for his tendency to crowd the plate, Baylor developed a knack for getting hit by pitches.
