Bears claim former Buccaneers 2nd-round pick Roberto Aguayo

14 August 2017

Aguayo has been pretty bad as an National Football League kicker.

Well, according to Field Yates of ESPN, the Bears have claimed Aguayo, and he will now do battle with Connor Barth through the rest of the preseason.

Though he was eventually released by the Dolphins, he ended up in New Orleans, where he won a preseason battle with kicker Dustin Hopkins and started the season as the Saints' kicker.

USA stocks open slightly higher
Benchmark U.S. 10-year notes last rose 6/32 in price to yield 2.1905 percent, from 2.211 percent late on Thursday. The U.S. equity market is hovering near record levels and volume has been tepid following the onset of summer.

Barth made 16 of 18 field goals from 45 yards or closer last season (one of those misses was blocked).

Meanwhile, Aguayo missed on nine of his 31 field goal attempts as a rookie for the Buccaneers in 2016.

The Bears are now responsible for that, whether he makes the team or not, an investment that suggests he'll have a real chance to challenge Barth for Chicago's kicking job.

Josh Dobbs fires first National Football League touchdown pass to Cobi Hamilton
There were promising moments in both drives when it looked like he might be able to engineer scoring drives, but both fizzled. He would finish the four-year span with a total of 9852 yards, throwing 83 touchdown passes with only 34 interceptions.

Roberto Aguayo's time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has come to an end. In extra points, Barth is better still, nailing 99 percent of his attempts (205 of 207), as opposed to Aguayo's 94.1 percent (32 of 34).

The Buccaneers will move forward with 11-year veteran kicker Nick Folk. He never missed an extra point attempt either. Folk was given a $1.75 million contract by the Bucs, including $750,000 guaranteed, more than Aguayo's entire 2017 salary. I did some good things. "We'll just continue to gain confidence and get them reps eventually in a "team" setting to get them ready for the season". "You just have to keep your head up and move onto the next day".

"You've got to enjoy it, you've got to embrace it", Aguayo told reporters on August 4 when asked about the competition.
