UCLA Matches Berkeley as the Nation's Top Public University

UM maintained its position as the No. 4 public university in the country in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report rankings, while finishing 28th overall in the national ranking. Western is also listed 61st of 122 public and private colleges and universities on the top Midwestern list of "Best Regional Universities".

But two public institutions showed the most improvement, climbing at least a dozen spots from their ranking previous year.

On the other hand, Georgia State University that has become a national model for succeeding with low-income and minority students, dropped by 30 spots in the rankings list.

A spokeswoman for the publication told us previously that its own world rankings relied more on research and reputation while domestic ones are dependent on the quality of undergraduate education and good outcomes for students. FSU's four-year graduation rate is among the top 25 nationally, the six-year graduation rate is 80 percent and the university's freshman retention rate is almost 93 percent, which ranks 18th nationally.

In other highlights from the rankings, CU Boulder's undergraduate business program at the Leeds School of Business landed the No. 20 spot among public universities, or 31st overall. The university also appeared on U.S. News & World Report's list of "A-Plus Schools for B Students".

McRorie reiterated that the university's emphasis on student success is at the heart of its rapid ascent in the national rankings.

This university is considered the best in Australia for graduate employability according to the 2017 QS ranking. For the 15th year in a row, Williams College in MA tops the list of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges.

Roberts Wesleyan College ranked 78th and Keuka College ranked 120th for northern universities.
