Major flaw in macOS High Sierra puts your passwords at risk

A little prep work goes a really long way when you are upgrading to macOS High Sierra. Wardle created a "keychainStealer" app demonstrating a local exploit for the vulnerability, which according to the video, can expose passwords to websites, services, and credit card numbers when a user is logged in.

Wardle claims he told Apple about the problem in September.

Wardle notified Apple of his discovery, but made a decision to go public after Apple released High Sierra without patching the vulnerability.

Wardle tested the exploit on High Sierra, but said that older versions of macOS and OS X are also vulnerable.

The new update introduces Mac with an advanced file storage system called APFS, short for Apple File System. The company says that this new technology provides the most efficient way of tapping into the GPU power on Mac. Valve is optimizing its SteamVR platform for macOS and the HTC Vive is now supported on Macs. When it does, you can pretty much count on spending a few hours trying to get back to work.

HEVC or H.265 is the successor to the popular H.264 codec. This will make streaming easier without reducing quality.

The upgrade also brings several refinements in apps like Safari and Photos. Safari also keeps unexpected and unwanted autoplay videos from playing, although you can authorise certain sites to autoplay these kind of videos too.

Apple's latest software update for its Mac computers has finally been released, bringing with it a host of performance improvements and new features. The biggest of these is a heavier focus on VR, with heaps of new support for SteamVR, which is now being optimised by Valve to run on Macs.

So if you're using Macbook or iMac, we strongly recommend you to download macOS High Sierra. On the other hand, it has been a while since I came away from a new macOS version thinking, "Yes, this software absolutely makes my computer indisputably better than it was before".

New file system: If you're running a Mac that uses only a solid state drive, then your system will be converted to Apple's new AFPS file system.

Some older apps will also stop working.
