'Blade Runner 2049' Is Masterful Sci-Fi Cinema

Blade Runner 2049 proves to be a particularly weird answer to that question.

Officer K is charged with stopping Wallace from building his army of replicants by Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright), which sets him off on a mission to track down the mysterious Rick Deckard, a former blade runner who went missing 30 years ago, shortly after the events of Ridley Scott's 1982 original.

Reprising his role as Deckard, a welcome Harrison Ford brings humanity to a movie peopled with grim synthetics.

Although the folks behind Honest Trailers usually focus on recent flicks, they recently went back to the dystopian future for Ridley Scott's original Blade Runner. 'Blade Runner 2049' was a tough shoot: Harrison Ford. And story-wise, "Blade Runner" was more layered than Scott's other sci-fi landmark, "Alien", three years earlier. It's the latest from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, who took the film world by storm past year with his bizarrely dystopian film The Lobster (about a man who, if he fails to find a replacement for his now-ex wife in 45 days, will be surgically transformed into a lobster). According to the first journalists to see it, you're right to be excited.

As the stunning developments in K's investigation take him down an increasingly perilous path, Joi is the only one he knows he can trust completely, and she, in turn, gently guides and encourages him, giving him a perspective no one else could offer. What should be known is that with Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve has outdone himself on a visual scale.

Sunday's National Football League games: Rams kick Cowboys; Patriots lose at home
DE Robert Quinn's 17 forced fumbles are the most in the National Football League since start of 2013 campaign. Still, the Rams held on to get the win, and have scored 40-plus points in two of three games this season.

That being said, the one issue that Blade Runner 2049 does have from a storytelling perspective is that of pacing.

Critics are also raving about the performances of Gosling, Ford, and Leto. "Other times, you don't really have to".

In the end, Blade Runner 2049 honors the legacy of its predecessor while also opening the franchise up to much wider possibilities for the future.
