Talking secrets and styles with the cast of 'Blade Runner 2049'

06 October 2017

Gosling's stoic and distant performance is actually a benefit to the character's existential crisis. When K unearths a long-hidden secret that could send society into chaos, he embarks on a unsafe mission to uncover the truth, which leads him to finding the missing former blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and understanding the ways of humanity.

Escapes is a documentary about Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fancher.

I was about 14 years old, which I think was 12 years after the original had come out. Plus, Villeneuve's film Arrival was my favorite of 2016, and I'm floored by what he's been able to achieve.

The film is haunting. But whereas Deckard's identity was - depending on whom you ask - up for grabs, K is definitely a replicant. He questions his past, present, and future. Time has kind of proven its specialness.

Scott does the same with Blade Runner 2049, but not in the capacity of director, rather as executive producer and, more importantly, caretaker of the Blade Runner legacy.

However, the real star of "Blade Runner 2049", just as in the original, are the impeccable and downright gorgeous visuals, this time through the masterful eye of legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins.

EU Endorses Police Brutality in Catalonia as 'Proportionate Use of Force'
The Catalan government has called on the global community - the European Union in particular - to mediate. Most of San Rafael, including the town hall, is in the Valencia region, which has no plans to leave Spain.

While I gained the increased layers of technological projection, I missed the finer details onscreen and was left in an oversaturated darkness at points. We're convinced K is more, especially after, while on a mission, he stumbles on to the remains of a replicant woman who apparently died in child birth. The promise of a world with so much more to offer than a rumination about the very essence of humanity.

Hugely influential at the time, 1982's Blade Runner was also a creative and box-office disappointment, going through no fewer than seven separate versions while gradually building a cult following. From its towering Aztec-inspired megastructures to its claustrophobic street-level markets, the world of Rick Deckard and his quest to retire illegal replicants is as vivid a cinematic memory as we have in our collective consciousness. "In each case we chose what scale to build the different sets because a lot of things had to be taken into consideration", he explained. Humanity is really nearly at its end.

RYAN GOSLING: (As K) I would much prefer that to the alternative. To create turbulence, special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer attached commercial propane tanks to boom arms that dunked them in and out of the water, creating huge crashing waves.

"First let me say this about Denis".

But even when the three do manage to hold it together long enough to trade questions and answers, they're still hilarious.

How is Denis as a director in general, his directing style, how he works with cast and crew?

Giving blood for Las Vegas
"If you would like to donate blood for the injured victims of the Strip shooting visit the Labor Health & Welfare Clinic, 7135 W. Sahara", the force wrote on Twitter. "And tragedies like the Las Vegas shootings tend to attract more first-time donors".

He had a great reverence, and respect for the original. He has a device that allows him to have a significant other, despite the fact that she is nothing more than a hologram. He used his admiration and turned it into inspiration. "We worked from there until I had the lighting pattern I needed to rig".

His return to this property was the cherry on the cake, if you will, as this film wouldn't have been the same without him. He also contributed visual ideas for Tron, 2010, Aliens, and Tomorrowland, among other films. As K, he undoubtedly permeates the film with his known brand of "cool", but rarely takes us past a broody aesthetic.

It's hard for me to say if Blade Runner 2049 is truly the ideal follow up or if it even surpasses its predecessor. "Then when it was him, you couldn't miss it", he laughs. "Unless you work with Harrison and you realize there's only one great way and he's figured it out". What can be said is that the film is more straightforward than the original. He's the constant in all of those equations.

What I can tell you is that in 2049 there is a new and improved replicant, one that's even more human. Billboards still stand stories high, but now they try to reach out and touch you.

Basically, I wanted to fall in love with "Blade Runner 2049", and I parts. That's not really his thing, you know?

He's not just wanting to create a film that looks similar, or sounds the same; he wants to create a film that true fans will see and have no doubt that it is in the same universe.

Ford to cut costs $14 bln, invest in trucks, electric cars -CEO
Last week it announced a partnership with ride-hailing app Lyft to look at how it could connect customers with self-driving cars. The future models would only offer 96 variations meaning less investment on the designing, making and storing of parts.
