13 January 2018

Winds at times could be damaging. Gusts of 30 miles per hour are possible.

As a major cold front moves in from Canada, it will meet the record high temps predicted for some areas, AccuWeather reports.

The last few days may have felt like a heat wave after the brutal stretch of arctic weather, but the relative warmth will be short-lived as rain and low temperatures chill the area this weekend and another layer of snow could fall next week.

Lows will be in the teens overnight. Morning lows will plummet into the single digits on Friday and highs won't get much warmer than 15° on Saturday! A brief wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet is possible during the transition from rain to snow.

Temperatures will fall into the teens by Friday night and winds will increase to 15-20 miles per hour. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

A cold rain is expected early Friday morning as temperatures hover in the 30s. I think we end up with 4"-8" of in central Kentucky with less in eastern Kentucky.

A band of sleet and freezing rain may persist from the Hudson Valley north of New York City into parts of northern New England.

Snow melt and warming temperatures Wednesday will soften river ice. The freezing rain window appears to only last a few hours, and looks less widespread for the time frame. Today, 1-3 inches of rain could fall in these same places, increasing the flood threat in areas with poor drainage.

The snow will cause slick driving conditions across the state for the morning drive.

Heavy rain and dense fog on Friday will make way for bitter cold later in the evening. Flooding has already been reported in some areas and it will only get worse until the rain turns to ice and then snow.
