Democrats oppose the measure because it does not include a protection for Dreamers, recipients of former President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, and are demanding a commitment from House Speaker Paul Ryan that he'd bring immigration legislation sponsored by Reps.

The Kentucky Republican took the floor to blast the increase in federal spending limits, and in particular the fiscal irresponsibility of his own party.

The shutdown, which started at midnight, was the second this year under the Republican-controlled Congress.

Paul was harshly criticized by his fellow Republicans for delaying an inevitable passage vote in the Senate.

Cavaliers deal guard Dwyane Wade back to Heat
In an exclusive interview with CBS4, Dwyane Wade Sr. says he knew something was up when he talked to his son Wednesday night. With Wade's return coming shortly after the Heat debuted their new Miami Vice style jerseys, it was really a ideal storm.

Sen. Rand Paul was blocking the Senate's move to quickly pass approve its massive budget deal Thursday with only hours until government funding lapses. He was upset about government spending on everything from Afghanistan to misspent funds diverted from school lunch programs, saying both parties are "spending us into oblivion".

The Senate approved it earlier and sent it to the House of Representatives.

An angry Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) accused Paul of playing games as the federal government lurched closer to running out of funding for the second time in three weeks.

The Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney began plans to close non-essential government operations according to a spokesman.

Senate Spending Bills In Peril As Last-Minute Objections Arise
What's the White House saying? A budget impasse resulted in a three-day government shutdown last month. The measures will not provide a fix for undocumented immigrants brought to the children.

The bill also lifts the nation's debt ceiling for a year and allocates $90 billion for areas hit by hurricanes and wildfires.

Under Senate rules, the earliest the chamber can vote on the two-year budget deal is early Friday morning, unless every senator agreed to speed things up.

Senator Paul has been opposing the panned boost to military and has been against budget deficits.

Other Republicans were said to oppose a bi-partisan deal created to put an end to squabbling over fiscal policy, at least until beyond November's midterm congressional elections. "Every one of those republicans complained about President Obama's deficits and yet now we have them out there bragging and pushing and doing everything they can to get their trillion dollar deficit through". House Speaker Paul Ryan needs some Democrats to vote for it, just to get a simple majority.

US stock market rebounds after horror plunge yesterday
Gold was the only positive sector on the commodity-heavy index on Thursday, as more investors shifted toward the safe-haven asset. The selloff in stocks that began last week has been built on concerns over higher interest rates and lofty valuations.
