Storm expected to bring heavy snow in southern Michigan

18 News is following a developing weather situation Wednesday morning - a winter storm is slowly moving closer to the Twin Tiers.

The heaviest snow totals will likely be just north of the state line. Thursday night temperatures will drop into the teens, with the wind chill factor expected to drop as low as minus 8 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 100%. A few snowflakes could mix in the higher terrain before we dry out overnight, but no additional accumulation of snow is expected. Cloudy, with a low around 11. Southwest wind 5 to 10 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which is in effect from late tonight through Friday evening.

The snow will become heavy at times tonight, with periods of snow then continuing through the day on Friday.
