Donovan Mitchell wins National Basketball Association slam dunk contest

18 February 2018

Taking center stage at All-Star Saturday Night in the Slam Dunk Contest, Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell did what he's done throughout his first year as a pro.

For his first attempt, Smith attempted a 360 windmill but could not convert. It was a cool visual to watch back-to-back with his dad, but the actual dunk looked like it happened at three-quarters speed. LeBron is a fan of the game and likes all four participants of the dunk contest, but it's no surprise he chooses his teammates first, as he always has his whole career. After the impressive feat, Mitchell found the nearest camera and imitated Carter's "It's over" bluster and gesture from the 2000 contest the former Raptors great won going away. I really wanted to be in the All-Star Game, not so much the dunk contest but to be in it is a blessing.

They might not have carried everyone to victory, but here are the best dunks from this year's competition. "But with the All-Star on the court, just kind of seeing all that has been pretty insane for me", he said.

The players in the 33rd annual dunk contest include: Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr., Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo and Dallas Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr.

Patient Graeme McDowell Shares The Lead After Two Rounds At Genesis Open
Adam Scott (71) was next best of the Australians at two over, while countryman Greg Chalmers is three over after a 74. After a three-over par first round, Johnson posted a two-under 69 on Friday to stand one-over for the tournament.

Mitchell just didn't have a jam quite like the one Smith brought out for his second dunk of the contest.

Nance Jr. finished his night with a 50 of his own, tossing the ball off the glass as he soared towards the basket and jamming it home.

Previous to the dunk contest, we also saw Phoenix Suns' guard Devin Booker take down the field in the 3-point competition, setting a record with 28 points.

Dennis Smith Jr. had a shaky start in his first dunk, but he immediately made up for it with a flawless score for his 360 between-the-legs slam that gave him the 3rd place finish. Plus, not only is dunking from the free throw line hard to pull off, but this year's crop of dunkers is more power than finesse.

Lindsey Vonn responds to Twitter trolls after failing to medal at Olympics
Hours before the Super G event on Saturday, Vonn posted an emotional tribute to her grandfather on Instagram . Boutin had won the bronze medal after South Korean medal hope Choi Min-Jeong was disqualified for interfering.

As for last night, it was just another exactly of how dynamic Nance can be.

Mitchell and Nance Jr. advanced to the championship round after tallying 98 (48,50) and 93 (44,49) points respectively.

Because the second tap was hard and perhaps impossible to see live, Nance had to point to the video screen for fans to watch the replay.
