How do we fix this?
According to David Leonhardt in The New York Times, we live in "the most unsafe of wealthy nations for a child to be born into" due to our higher infant mortality rate while other nations have lowered theirs. We need leaders with loving kindness in their hearts who will correct the problems and lead us forward to a brighter and safer day.
Most of the suggestions that I'm offering (free of charge, despite being a capitalist) to gun control advocates are pretty simple, but given how I've seen them argue the reminder seems necessary. Because the Orlando shooter who murdered 49 people June 12, 2016 physically abused his wife.
You may have heard the old adage: "Guns don't kill people". Because too many of us well-meaning liberal/progressive adults have been cowed by the gun lobby. Out of the mouths of babes you say, and you are correct. Anyone who knows anything about the history of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights knows that the Second Amendment was about citizens having the right to bear arms and confront an oppressive government, as the colonists did against the British.
Trump suggests Florida officer was a 'coward'
It's unclear whether the shooter was still in the building when they arrived. The sheriff told reporters Peterson should have "addressed the killer".
The amendment and the Constitution were written for the people who would accept the government and follow all the laws. I could give the opposing side's responses to each in my sleep, as well as the counterpoint to that. It takes the votes of at least four justices to grant review of a case.
It is BS for this nation to favor Second Amendment rights over the lives of children.
Although the overwhelming majority of Americans have consistently advocated strong gun control laws, Congress recklessly allowed the ban to expire in 2004, bowing to pressure from their favorite long-term ally.
Instead, the gun control debate in Congress appears to be heading toward updating the background check process in the United States, if anything. This is terribly naïve.
Florida school shooting: NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch grilled by students
It was pretty chaotic", Loesch said, revealing that she had many awful threats and insults thrown at her. "It's very bad . Rubio said change can come when people on different sides, who have strong feelings, can agree on a way to make progress.
Thomas filed a 14-page dissent and lamented the court's "general failure to afford the Second Amendment the respect due an enumerated constitutional right".
The right to own a semi-automatic rifle doesn't surpass someone's right to life. Each pull of the trigger may send a burst of three rounds out of the rifle or it may be set to continuous fire. "There are few ideas more harebrained than the notion that we'd be more secure if everyone was armed", he explained. Mass shootings in America, whether in elementary schools, high schools, colleges, airports, churches, synagogues, community centers, night clubs, or malls, reflect a host of our society's woes, but the biggest one regards the availability of guns - and not just guns, but high capacity assault rifles. The next limit must be harsher regulations on purchasing guns - items that kill more children than cancer.
"If we are to stop this mindless homicidal carnage, is it unreasonable: to provide that, to acquire a firearm, an application be made reciting age, residence, employment and any prior criminal convictions?" We'll need to add hours to the school day just to get through security screening. On a volunteer basis, any school teacher, administrator, custodian...any staff member that can pass a background check and undergo basic training in firearms safety...should be allowed to carry concealed in the school. However, one incident can narrow that focus towards gun deaths. By noon yesterday, there were about 1,200 persons, mostly students, on the grounds of the Tallahassee State House.
Even under the ban, manufacturers of guns used loopholes to continue being able to produce guns very similar to the AR-15 by changing details on the weapon or changing its name. Let us surrender our guns and build a monument to the dead and to hope for the future. I, and probably many of us, would gladly trade my life for the life of one lost schoolchild. How do you feel our gun control laws are working? Perpetrators know they are unlikely to face meaningful resistance. According to statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and analyzed by John Lott - American economist, political commentator, and gun rights advocate - permit holders are more law abiding than the general public and have fewer firearms violations than police officers. It is twofold: self-defense/home protection and hunting/sport. Our kids deserve nothing less.
FLORIDA SHOOTING: Politicians, others slam Trump for suggesting teachers should carry guns
The President's idea was met with support from numerous attendees, CNN reported. He then went on to explain exactly why he wants to give teachers guns.
Matt Walton is the former Republican nominee for the 74th House of Delegates and is a member of the Henrico County Republican Committee. He represented ME at the Republican National Convention as an alternate in 2012. Out of that percentage, 43% of Republicans surveyed support it, as well as 91% of Democrats and 63% of independents.
