Jaguars all-electric I-Pace SUV promises a 240-mile range

02 March 2018

Jaguar has revealed its first all-electric production vehicle, and perhaps the first true rival to the Tesla Model X. Here's what Jaguar has told us about it so far.

Ahead of the Geneva Motor Show next week, Jaguar has revealed the final production version of its all-electric I-Pace auto aimed squarely at taking on Tesla at its own game.

The 2019 I-Pace doesn't actually look that different from the concept version that previewed it. The I-Pace puts out a net 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque, and with all four wheels being electrically driven, it'll hustle to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds.

The beast is also very powerful, thanks to the electric motors sending 400 PS (394-hp) and 512 pound-feet (694 Newton-meters) of torque to all four wheels. The all-wheel drive vehicle offers handling to match its pace, with a 50:50 weight distribution that gives "exceptional ride comfort and engaging driving dynamics".

He added: "Changes concern the entire civilization, and the sheer scale of these changes calls for an equally powerful response". At some point, it seemed that a compromise can be found, - said Putin . "I can say that the tests were successful", he said.

Cold weather can present challenges for electric vehicles.

The I-Pace will have at least a little off-road cability, Jaguar said, being able to wade through almost 20 inches of water and to operate in temperatures down to -40-Fahrenheit or -40-Celsius.

Of course, being first is hardly worth the effort if the product isn't right, and in that regard the I-PACE's vital statistics make for compelling reading.

With its design driven by the twin purposes of aerodynamics (0.29Cd) and the nearly unstoppable compulsion for EVs to look a little futuristic, the electric I-Pace (which ought to have taken the E-Pace name, we know) blends a tall crossover silhouette with a somehow menacing pose. In addition to S, SE and HSE derivatives, there will also be a limited number of First Edition I-PACE models available.

'We encourage students to engage:' IU won't punish potential students for protesting
We have also observed that this response does not reflect any one group's opinion - its focus has been nonpartisan among students. A high school in Houston has warned students that they will be suspendedfor three days if they took part in any protest.

If you're in the house and you want to know how much range is remaining in the I-Pace's battery, or whether you locked the doors, just ask Alexa. First teased back in November of 2016, the I-Pace had, until now, only been seen in its camouflaged guise before being fully revealed during the event. Go for a 100kW rapid charger, and that time drops to just 40 minutes. The energy for this is drawn from the mains when the I-Pace is plugged in so that it doesn't have to rob from its own batteries. The battery can be preconditioned when plugged in too, which Jaguar says helps ensure range is unaffected by temperature.

The design of the Jaguar I-PACE is highlighted by aggressive lines through the entire exterior. All of these elements were present in the I-Pace concept, and while the interior has clearly evolved into a more consumer-ready design, just about everything else has been preserved the way it was originally shown.

Let's cut to the chase. The I-Pace comes in as the third SUV model, joining the ranks of the E-Pace and F-Pace.

Tesla now offers the Model X in three versions. Jaguar broke out the I-Pace's cargo figures. And if it outpaces the Model X, Tesla could find itself scrambling.
