Jose Mourinho tells Man United to forget about Liverpool FC

Jose Mourinho has insisted that Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Sevilla significantly outweighs last weekend's win over Liverpool in terms of importance.

Spanish outfit Sevilla visit Manchester United and Old Trafford tonight (Tuesday, March 13) in the second leg of this last 16 Champions League encounter.

"We have to beat Sevilla to go through, so we give our best".

Tottenham and Chelsea took advantage of Liverpool's loss in the battle for the top four with comfortable wins, but Spurs' 4-1 success at Bournemouth was marred by a nasty looking ankle injury suffered by Harry Kane.

The Red Devils will then host Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford next weekend as they look to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The Reds boss knows United remain a work in progress in his second season in charge and claims they are not among the contenders to win the Champions League this year.

Gregor Townsend was phlegmatic, encouraged by a performance he described as "miles ahead" of their capitulation in Cardiff in round one.

Sevilla coach Vincenzo Montella was also keen to move on from Saturday's 2-0 loss to Valencia and focus on a potentially historic European tie.

In the second half, it was not our intention - I can not say this was the plan.

"To keep going and try to get through to the quarterfinal would be great for us".

Asked whether he felt he had a squad good enough to make it a hat-trick of titles with United, he replied: "Not yet".

This season, he has played 17 times but increasingly in the bigger games.

United themselves have managed to pull off the feat three times, although they failed on the first two occasions in which they found themselves in such a position. We have confidence, we know it will be tough but we are ready. Away in London a week later, at Crystal Palace, a typically frustrating lethargic and complacent performance at Selhurst Park seemed to be set to put United into third.

"We didn't take it for granted, but it was just what we did for so, so many years".

Those included the second goal in the first leg of Sevilla's eventual Champions League last-16 defeat to Leicester City.

"I think Martin Atkinson (the fourth official) after so many years of this, I think made the right decision".

"He goes about his business, he comes in, he is always in doing extra training".

"But he's a player that we trust and I told that before the Liverpool match where probably not many of you [the media] were expecting him to start".

McTominay will also have worldwide football to add to his schedule going forward, having been called up by Scotland for the first time on Monday.
