Giuliani: Trump repaid Cohen $130K for payment to porn star

The admission came after former Rudy Giuliani, the former NY mayor who recently joined the president's legal team, disclosed Wednesday that Trump had reimbursed Cohen for the payment over a period of several months.

Washington D.C, May 3: United States President Donald Trump on Thursday defended the hush money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels, saying that he paid a monthly retainer to his former lawyer Michael Cohen which is " not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign". Trump has previously denied knowing anything about the payments. He made it go away. Giuliani's remarks contradict statements Trump has made that he did not know about the payment.

In February, Cohen said in a statement that he used his own "personal funds" to facilitate the payment to Daniels.

Mr Trump's tweets on Thursday appeared to support his new lawyer Rudy Giuliani's claim that the 71-year-old businessman reimbursed Mr Cohen for the payment to Daniels. Then Trump said Cohen was acting as his attorney but conspicuously didn't address whether he had reimbursed Cohen via a slush fund.

It is important for the FEC to take this matter seriously and open an investigation, so future campaigns don't feel empowered to ignore requirements put in place to keep campaigns transparent about who is funding campaigns and how campaigns are spending money.

Before Modi addressed the voters, Yeddyurappa, the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, said the BJP will win more than 150 states. The PM alleged that that even ministers in Congress were following a 1+1 formula as their relatives too were fighting the polls.

Trump's campaign did not disclose the reimbursement to Cohen on its reports.

"What we heard from Michael Cohen and for the people defending Michael Cohen for months was that the president never knew anything about the agreement, never knew anything about the payment, that Michael Cohen went off and did this on his own". "Michael's my attorney, and you'll have to ask Michael".

As recently as April 6, Trump told reporters that he did not know about the payment.

Moreover, if Mr. Giuliani believed that this labored account would put Mr. Trump and the campaign in the clear, he was most likely mistaken.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, alleges a 2006 affair with Trump just months after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son.

"Mr Trump evidently has participated in a felony and there must be serious consequences for his conduct and his lies and deception to the American people".

The former New York City mayor added that it was "no campaign finance violation" because it had been made through a law firm and Trump repaid Cohen.

"The president repaid it", Giuliani told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity. Giuliani told "Fox & Friends" that Trump learned the details about the payment "10 days ago". "He was well aware that at some point when I saw the opportunity, I was going to get this over with", Giuliani said.

"Michael Cohen: 'I'm arguably the dumbest lawyer in America.' Rudy Giuliani: 'Hold my beer, '" R. Chase Brindisi wrote. Trump has stated that "when I made a decision to just do it I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won". "No, I don't know", he said. Campaigns can't avoid campaign reporting laws by taking loans and then paying them back, he said.
