Trump to meet South Korean president at White House on May 22

A date and location have reportedly been set for the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but the details have yet to be publicly announced.

It went on to say that the two leaders would "continue their close coordination of developments regarding the Korean Peninsula following the April 27 inter-Korean Summit", referring to the recent historic meeting of North and South Korean leaders.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Friday (Thursday local time) it would be seen as a sign of "good will" to free the Americans as reports emerged of their "imminent" release.

Two of the three detainees - Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim - were imprisoned in 2017 when Trump was in office.

Officials with the Pentagon and the National Security Council also denied the report.
