Pennington left in a bloody mess as Nunes defends her UFC title

Make no mistake, just because there are no "superstars" now at 135 does not mean that Nunes run has been anything less than impressive.

Clearly perturbed by being taken down in the second round, Nunes marched forward even more in the third, though she finally encountered some tough resistance.

Once the fight was over, Nunes called Pennington and her fiancée Tecia Torres to join her in the Octagon where she addressed how hard this fight was for her. On the high of capturing the title, Nunes welcomed back former bantamweight queen, Ronda Rousey, who had not stepped inside the Octagon for more than a year following her stunning upset loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

Despite offering very little in terms of offense, Pennington did keep the champion on her toes with some well-placed counter punches, though they had little effect on "The Lioness". Pennington will have to be wary of over extending and getting caught.

That said, Gastelum's speed and accurate striking does make it tempting to back him for the win, knowing full well that it's not the percentage play.
